Believe it or not but summer is on the way. I know its hard to imagine with the remnants of "the beast from the east" still lingering but it is true. Warmer weather is fast approaching and to time with this, we welcome in our new Summer Seasonal fabric bunch.
I've long thought that the art of patience is something we should all teach our children these days. We live in a world filled with instant gratification where our every whim is catered for at the click of a button.
The perfect gift for the man who loves bespoke tailoring
We are pleased to announce that Colmore Tailor's gift vouchers are now available to buy online. They are available in various denominations from £50 upwards.
Whether you are a business owner or a barrister, an entrepreneur or an investor, having a solid wardrobe of men’s business suits is essential.
Peaky Blinders is here, and the bit I get most excited about, is those Peaky Blinder suits and the whole Peaky Blinder fashion.
Autumn is a busy time for Colmore Tailors and fine tailoring. And in particular for sharp, well made evening wear. From made-to-measure (MTM) dinner suits to bespoke velvet tuxedo jackets, we make them all at this time of year. But with the lines of formal and casual becoming ever more blurred what should you wear to a black tie event?
You can also book an appointment for a bespoke or made-to-measure (MTM) suit at our home studio in Lichfield.
We moved into our Birmingham City Centre studio at the start of July and things are coming along nicely. Whilst all our changes may not be immediately apparent to the casual observer, the more eagle-eyed will notice subtle changes on a weekly basis. (save for the re-decorating job, which is a tad more obvious). These improvements will continue to be implemented and your feedback, good and bad, is always welcomed. For those of you that do not know, we are based just off New Street and overlook Temple Row. One minute's walk from Colmore Row and the Great Western Arcade
Believe it or not, but years ago Bespoke clothing was the norm. Ready-to-wear had not been thought of and Birmingham's streets were teeming with tailors. It was not uncommon to have a tailor on the corner of every street.
Over the years RTW has become more prominent, sacrificing fit (the most important part of clothing) and replacing it with speed and impulsiveness. Don't get me wrong, RTW has its place, but my heart will always be with custom tailoring, made to fit me and me alone.
What on earth is a lounge suit?
With event season in full swing, it's a question you may hear around the office once or twice. Events are coming along thick and fast and all the different dress codes and rules can be a tad confusing. For those used to the codes, this poses no problems, but if you are new to the circuit it can be a little confusing.
The weather changes almost daily here in Birmingham. Rain one hour and glorious sunshine the next. Whilst the transition in weather may prove challenging it also reminds us that one of the most exciting times of year lies ahead.
It’s been a question that’s been going around my head for a few days now. We know what we do but why exactly do we do it. The obvious answer is because we love suits, we love tailoring and we love clothes. This is true, but I always felt why we do what we do was bigger than just suits, it stood for something more….and that’s what we are getting to the bottom of.
We've been spending a lot of time in-house making some fabulous tailored garments.
There is the pink Scabal "Amalfi" check 2 piece suit that made all our jaws drop, the beautiful french blue 3 piece made from Dugdale Brothers spectacular Spectrum bunch, and the silk and linen blend half-lined jacket with the baby pink lining from Dugdale's Cascade.
When we started our travelling tailor service we always knew we wanted to set down some roots at some point. After several rounds of viewings, logistics plans and in-person visits it turned out that our home was closer than we thought.
Based a mere 2 minutes from New Street and Snow Hill stations, and 60 seconds walk from Colmore Row is the new home of Colmore Tailors. Walk up the stairs to the first floor of our grade II listed building and you will find, what is likely to be, the cities last remaining tailors workshop.
For some men chalk-stripes can hold a great dear of fear. The thickness of the stripe makes a bold statement about the man beneath it. About who he is, and who he wants to be. Some, myself included, prefer to go under the radar.
I’ve been called boring about my clothing choices a few times. Sticking steadfastly to the colours I enjoy and the styles I like can make me appear a bit OCD…..however I know what I like, I know what I’m comfortable in, and i know my style!!
If you have never bought a tailored suit before there is a lot to think about. The question of "where and when am I going to wear it" is the first to answer.
Our friend Bethan Tolley and the excellent team over at The BusinessDesk have very kindly written two awesome articles all about Colmore Tailors and yours truely.
I've heard many people have a debate over how many times you should dry clean your suit. Some say very little, some say a lot, which is correct?
