Proper Planned Purchases - Building a Wardrobe
How to build a tailored mans wardrobe
How to plan your tailoring purchases to build a wardrobe any tailored man would be proud of
I’ve been called boring about my clothing choices a few times. Sticking steadfastly to the colours I enjoy and the styles I like can make me appear a bit OCD…..however I know what I like, I know what I’m comfortable in, and i know my style!!
I don’t see the point in having a bright purple checked suit if nothing in my wardrobe goes with it!
When your suit only has one complementary shirt then the chances to wear it will be very minimal! I stick with flexible colours, classic combos and a wardrobe that offers the most options!
I remember the old adage of “the loudest man in the room is the weakest man in the room” or the classic “a rich man doesn’t need to tell you he’s rich”……so rocking up in a garish suit does not enter my head, I have nothing to prove, maybe apart from to myself. For me subtlety says more than anything and playing about with textures, buttons and personal details……
So maybe I am not boring? But I am who I am, and I know what I like!
So without further ado my basic colour palette is so
Thats it! Nothing OTP and nothing too exciting…..but then how do i make it me. Details, details……
Kissing horn buttons on a jacket???
A herringbone weave??
Mobile phone pocket maybe?
Turn ups on Chinos?
Cut Away collar shirt with rounded cuffs?
When you stop looking for easy wins and focus on the nuances of what make a garment then limiting your choices actually becomes more fun, more personal……
Don’t follow the herd, don’t go for the easy win. Go for what suits, what works and stick with it…..then the fun really starts!!
